ABOUT THE PROJECT

We are seeking 4-6 voice actors local to the GTA to take part in recording a sound line that will be integrated as multimedia for our live stage shows in Vancouver and Victoria, which include a multi-cast of 400+ dancers. The voices will be used in all casts across all cities.

MUSES

Twice a year Luminesque Dance creates larger-than-life stage shows that feature the students of our Signature Heels programs. This term we have created a unique, lively, and light-hearted satire about the search for inspiration and all the ways “muses” appear throughout our creative careers. Each section focuses on a different creative pursuit, and each dance brings to life an encounter between a Muse and their assigned Human. Combining incredible choreography, embodied storytelling, epic costumes and visuals we strive to put something truly unique and special on the stage.

The show deals with themes of creativity, motivation, sensual expression, inspiration, artistry, and humour. The dancing focuses on fun, joy, cheeky sexy, embodied power, and creative expression. We are still working on our public marketing for the show, but below is our first little description and visual to introduce the show:

Welcome to Muse Inc. We, The Muses, are dedicated to the discreet delivery of artistic ideas to the Humans… no matter how difficult they may inadvertently make our missions. Assisted by our trusted Sparks, we 100% guarantee that inspiration strikes even amidst the cacophony of distractions.

As our company focuses on telling stories that are fundamentally about existing/creating a world outside the oppressive systems of our current society, we are specifically seeking actors identifying as members of equity-seeking groups, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, and other folks in the Global Majority (BIPOC); LGBTQIA+, trans and gender diverse folks; neurodivergent folks, folks with disabilities or chronic illness; and folks with diverse body sizes.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

These characters are all in a scene together where they are teaching the new Muse, GoldWing, about how to get the creative genius through to the humans. Regardless of which character you choose to audition with, you will be considered for all 7 parts and casting will be based on the Director's discretion. None of our characters have a “human gender” as they are “muses” that exist beyond the human realm. However, many of the roles will be physically portrayed onstage by feminine presenting dancers. We have chosen to add voice tones to each of the characters below to help you assess the feel for each character, but we are open to hearing any type of voice for any type of role. The remaining 4 roles have other voice tones and character traits, so we may request a second recording of a different role should we wish to hear you for a different one.

Please select at least one of the following excerpts to use in your recording.

AURELIA
The manager who is training the new Muse, GoldWing
Sharp, Sassy, Direct, Leader, Sexy drawl, Often speaking while multitasking, Slight autopilot feeling
TONE: Higher Voice, clear and precise with each word, slightly distant

EXCERPT FOR AURELIA

Alright Goldwing, that wasn’t bad you were starting to get the hang of it there. The “hustle and bustle” sim is one of the trickier ones, there is a lot of distraction and you need to keep focused on one person, one idea, in order to get through. You also missed the human wearing headphones, which is always going to be an easier one to get through to. Music can put them in a bit of a trance. (looks at watch) Walk with me, it’s time for our weekly recap and I want you to sit in. I suggest you take notes in this meeting, as some of these muses are long-time specialists in the field. Ahh, here they are now.

Alright, team, this is our newest intern GoldWing. They have just been assigned to the Earth sector and given their first Musecast starting on Monday. Let’s all use this meeting to share some of your top-performing tricks, yes? (she looks over at a lead who is slowly circling GoldWing) And Jedd.. be nice.

JEDD
A younger Muse who is often the trouble maker of the group
Cocky, Big Sibling Feel, Sharp, Smart, Sneaky, Direct
TONE: Low Voice, Changes voice for dramatic effect when mimicking the human

EXCERPT FOR JEDD

Alright alright. So I’ve been working on this new creator over in the big city. Playwright. Really moody type. Bolt worked with them a few years back and channelled a big splashy success, so, of course, they’re in that state of (changes to overdramatic sad monotone voice) “now what? Nothing I do will ever be as good” (mimes fake crying and rubbing eyes then snaps back to normal) Now listen up Goldie, when you get one of these types you have to get them out of their repeating thoughts and plant some new ones. And in a big city with a lot going on, you’re going to need to find ways to work with what you’ve got. This one just couldn’t seem to move out of the grind, and when that happens you have to be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity…

PULSE
The sexpot of the group, always finding a way to make it sound sexual
Sultry, Slow, Main Character energy, Speaks with a slight smile on her face
TONE: Low or High Voice, Speaks slow and sexy, often sounding a bit over the top

EXCERPT FOR PULSE

So as you all know, I’ve been working with my client Eleanor for nearly two decades now. We’ve been writing this series together, we’re on book 18. It’s a really steamy human escape novel, and her readers have been waiting for over a year. So the pressure is on, and while I personally love a little pressure (winks to GoldWing) it’s caused Ellie to feel the stress. And stress is the worst. You will never be able to get a human to receive when they’re all knotted up and walking around like they haven’t gotten any lovin’ in a long while. So of course I decided I needed to work my magic and help her relax a little. I mean 18 erotic novels later, she’s simply… uninspired! So I planted the idea of a little self-care ritual to help her rediscover the feeling of a true leading lady. She lit the whole room in candles, got some special packages delivered to her house (another wink), and put on a playlist she’d never heard before. I love playing DJ in these situations! We decided to indulge in some alone time letting her imagination take the reigns.

See when you’ve been with a human for a while, it’s much easier to know what works. And poor Elle-Belle, she just needs to shut the world out and not care what anyone wants from her. Sometimes, it’s the only way to get what YOU want.  And wow did she get what she needed..
