ROLES:

OVERVIEW

OVERALL TRAITS: Physical Acting or Movement Background, comfort with displays of simulated intimacy on stage, alignment with Luminesque values

We are casting skilled actors to bring the vivid characters of various novels to life on stage. These actors will embody the lead roles from the books the authors are writing, portraying their journeys, relationships and emotional depth as their stories unfold.

As the visionary behind S.M.U.T CAMP, the show lead, Madame LaFlamme helps the authors refine their manuscripts, shaping the way these characters take form. Actors will play a key role in this process, fully inhabiting the rich inner lives of these fictional figures.

These actors may or may not have lines they speak or act out in the show, and often we only see them as a physical manifestation of the imagination of our leads.

MADAME LAFLAMME

Female, age (by look) 25-50, Voiceover will be recorded with a French accent*

This unstoppable firecracker is the creative force behind SMUT CAMP. She guides our authors through their working titles and helps them unlock their creative potential. She serves to gently challenge the age-old tropes you tend to find in the erotica genre & cheekily illuminates new outcomes.

Traits: Quirky, Celebratory, Direct, Imaginative, Sex Positive, Encouraging, French

*Ideally the actor would have a French accent, or easily portray a French accent. However, you may audition with your natural voice and we will record a French voiceover actor for this role to act out if the right person does not have this accent. The accent will not affect your ability to be cast for this role.

3 PHYSICAL ACTORS:

ACTOR 1 - Masculine presenting, physical strength to lift and carry another person, requires physical intimacy work**

Character Traits: Strong, Passionate, Calm, Romantic, Strong facial expressions and gestures, Big energy

May play characters within the scenes such as: Lifeguard, Vampire, Werewolf, Archangel, Forbidden Lover

ACTOR 2 - Feminine presenting, ideally has a dance or movement background, romantic, requires physical intimacy work**

Traits: Fluid Movement, Large range of facial and physical expression, Romantic, Sensual, Relaxed

May play within the scenes: Fae Princess/Queen, New Divorcee, Romantic Lover with Inner Turmoil

ACTOR 3 - Open to all genders and expressions of gender, requires physical intimacy work**

Traits: Sex Positive, Friendly, Outlandish, Mysterious, Fun, Unconventional

May play within the scenes: Fae Courtesan, One-Night-Stand Lover, Alien, Forbidden Lover

**This production includes staged intimacy, and may include scripted actions such as kissing, physical touch, caressing, hugging, simulated manual & oral stimulation, implied masturbation and implied sex, with either one or two scene partners. While there is heightened exposure, no genitals or nipples will be shown. You are welcome to audition for any role, and during callbacks and casting offers we will be more specific about the exact scenes your offer would be for.

To ensure a safe and respectful process, we are working with an Intimacy Director to guide choreography and best practices. We are committed to fostering a professional environment where all actors’ boundaries are honored, and adjustments can be made as needed. All actors will have a 1-on-1 connection with the Intimacy Director before working on the scenes as a group, and will have continual consent check-ins throughout the process. All intimacy scenes will be guided and supported by an Intimacy Director, alongside our Show Director.

APRIL 22nd | 1-6 pm
ATTEND OUR IN-PERSON OPEN CASTING

We're holding an open casting on April 22 at Glow Studios Vancouver (1026 Davie St). No partner work will be required. An Intimacy Director will be present to support filming and answer questions. If you're auditioning for Madame Laflamme, you'll be asked to perform the script excerpt (off-book not required).

All applicants will receive timeslot placements by April 21 via email.

OPTIONAL SELF-TAPE ASSIGNMENT

MADAME LAFLAMME SUBMISSION

Please record yourself doing the following:

  • Introduce yourself, and tell us anything you’d like to share about your background

  • What is it that draws you to performing in a Luminesque show?

  • Performing the script excerpt (below), this can be ad-libbed or adjusted to fit your self-tape space. We want to see you bring the character to life in your own way, and the script will be developed to support this character's casting. Do not worry if you do not recite the script exactly.

OPTIONAL: You may also submit a resume, demo reel or cover letter if  you wish. Please upload it to the same form as the self tape.

SCRIPT EXCERPT FOR MADAME LAFLAMME:

Bonjour mes amis, I am Madame LaFlamme, and welcome to my selected writer's session! All of you are here because you have a unique desire to write something in the world of erotica and romance. Today we begin your journey with erotic literature. I am here to teach you about how to use the power of your writing to heal others. Yes, HEAL! Because these sexual books, for many, can be therapeutic. For those with pain, it can be the first time desire feels safe... has no pressure or fear attached to it. They remind readers what it's like to be wanted, worshipped, and safe. They teach them how to ask for what they want!

Together, my little bunnies,  we will write the most magnificent, the most incroyable, the most sexxxxaaaaaayyyyyyyyy manuscripts you did not even know lived inside of you. BUT.. before that can happen, I am here to scare away your demons.. To welcome in the light, and to help you to shake up your life. (shakes her whole body then looks at the writers) shake up your life… no my dears.. When I say this you must shake.. Come on… shake what your maman gave you.. (utters some words under their breath along the lines of “oh wow.. I have my work cut out for me here” ) ok ok..It looks like maybe you are all a little.. Mm how you say.. Terrified? That is ok though, fear exists only to protect us. But now it is time to tell us about your characters. Let’s get to know them, inside and out, yes? Very intimate! Very deep.  Now tell me… what is your book really about?

PHYSICAL ACTOR SUBMISSION

Please record yourself doing the following:

  • Introduce yourself, and tell us anything you’d like to share about your background

  • What is it that draws you to performing in a Luminesque show?

  • Is there anything you would like to share about your comfort working in Intimacy scenes (see our INTIMACY NOTES below)

  • Select TWO of the following AUDITION OPTIONS and record yourself using the prompt below for minimum 30 seconds, maximum 90 seconds. If an interaction is involved you can use the camera as the face of the other person or just act as if the person is just past the lens. As SMUT CAMP is a grand dance theatre experience - we are looking for performers with expressive range, and the presence required to being these characters to life with authenticity and depth. You are welcome to play music in the background if that feels more comfortable, and can find a few songs in this folder if you’d like to use songs from the show.

    • You are playing a character on a beach suntanning and you see someone extremely attractive walk by. Your posture and expression shift as you notice them. Respond as if they notice you back, and you give them a flirtatious hello. Imagine they continue to walk by and eventually leave and you go back to suntanning.

    • The same scenario above but now you are the one walking across the beach and you notice everyone you pass looking at you. Show how your posture and facial expression changes in this moment. You can choose how to play your character in this situation - whether they are serious or not, bashful, confident, etc...

    • Pretend you are dancing in a club. The music pulses as you move, caught in the energy of the place, until your eyes meet someone across the room. A familiar face. The one who got away. For a moment, everything else fades. Memories flood back - conversations, laughter, the unspoken things left behind. Then, they walk toward you.  Show us how your posture and facial expressions respond to this. For example, your breath catches, emotions stir - excitement, curiosity, maybe even a little hesitation.

    • You are dancing in a club, and you sense and then notice someone looking at you. Their gaze lingers, and you become aware of the way you move, the way you hold yourself in the space. You lean into the moment, letting the attention fuel your confidence and presence on the dance floor. Stay in the moment. Let the music guide you.

    • You are a royal heir, seated on your throne, observing a trusted advisor present an important matter before you. You remain seated but you expression and posture change in response to what they are saying, whether it intrigues, amuses, or concerns you. At the right moment, you gesture for them to step closer, showing your authority and control over the situation. Your expression and posture should reflect the complexity of leadership -  confidence, curiosity, or even the weight of responsibility.

    • Give us your own interpretation of a character confessing to someone they are in love with them, and they want to take their relationship further. You may speak in this video if it helps, but don't have to.

  • Select ONE of the AUDITION SONGS in this playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5MAcybBwdYldfZs1lWcRT1?si=4b2c526dcd3d4d37
OR select your own song to use, and play at least 30 seconds of music while you very slowly approach the camera staring directly into the lens like it is a person you feel romantically about. You are welcome to also dance and move freely beforehand or as you approach if you’d like to show any movement skills to us.

OPTIONAL: You may also submit a resume, demo reel or cover letter if you wish. Please upload it to the same form as the self tape.

If you’re having any technical issues with the form, please direct questions to glow@luminesquedance.com.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

We are seeking up to 8 lead Vancouver actors and up to 4 lead Victoria actors to take part in our live stage shows at Celebrities Nightclub and Capital Ballroom, which includes 150+ dancers per cast. It is possible we will cast all Vancouver performers and also have them perform in Victoria, in that case, accommodations and travel would be provided on top of the rates above.

SMUT CAMP plays out secret fantasies on stage for all to see. This term, we invite dancers and audience members to release their inhibitions, and explore what turns them on in our artistic sampling of the smut universe.

Join our prolific romantasy novelist, Eleanor, as she takes us back to where it all began - at S.M.U.T. (Storytelling Mastery for Unwritten Topsellers), affectionately known as “Smut Camp.” This famed writers’ retreat for aspiring novelists is where she first penned what would later become her bestselling romantasy series.

Blush, gasp, and feel the heat as four handpicked aspiring writers workshop their steamy manuscripts into smutty masterpieces. From sweat-dripping flings on faraway beaches to swoon-worthy tales of love that transcends time and space - everyone’s welcome to hop on and enjoy the ride of our smutty adventure.

SMUT CAMP aims to flip the script on age-old tropes and inspire you to rewrite your own sexy stories. We’re celebrating freedom, shedding shame, and embracing our desires - all alongside our fellow happy campers! 😘

Actors will be working with our Directors and Intimacy Director to create a version of the script that matches their movements and transitions. They will then record the voiceover with our team, and work towards correctly lip-syncing their script with the voice line. This helps us keep the show consistent and safe for dancers who are moving through the show. Onstage movement is required, but actual choreographed dancing is not. If our cast leads end up having dance experience, we may incorporate them into choreography or allow them to improvise movement. There is a possibility this would be performed live with microphones, but this would be discussed with performers during the rehearsal process and only happen if everyone was comfortable with that form of performance.

As our story is fundamentally about existing in/creating a world outside the oppressive systems of our current society, we welcome and specifically seek actors identifying as members of equity-seeking groups, including but not limited to: Black, Indigenous, and other racialized peoples; LGBTQIA+, trans and gender diverse folks; neurodivergent folks and folks with disabilities or chronic illness; and folks with diverse body sizes. Please note that both the rehearsal and performance venues have stairs and no elevator or lift, and are thus unfortunately inaccessible for wheelchair use.

ACCESSIBILITY:

GETTING THERE

Both Vancouver rehearsal and performance venues are located on Davie Street, just off Burrard, and are within walking distance from multiple bus routes. Both the Victoria rehearsal and performance venues are located on Yates Street, and are within walking distance from multiple bus routes.

PARKING

Vancouver: Free parking is located on Burnaby street, otherwise we suggest the Sandman parking lot or meters out front.
Victoria: Street parking is available by the studio and venue.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY
Regretfully, both the rehearsal space and the performance venues have stairs and no lift or elevator, and are thus inaccessible by wheelchair.

GENDER NEUTRAL WASHROOMS
Both rehearsal and performance venues have designated gender-neutral washrooms available.
